This week, mutalk features "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" as a part of the collection of jazz songs. The song "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" is a song part of the Mingus Ah Um album by Charles Mingus. Mingus wrote this song as an elegy for saxophonist Lester Young who died 2 months prior recording of this song. This is one of his best known compositions, and other composers like Joni Mitchell and Rahsaan Roland Kirk. The use of dissonance expresses the pathos and pain of Mingus. Players improvise in the performances, making each performance a unique one. If you have any recommendations or suggestions, please feel free to drop by here and let us know!
